According to the letter of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, the name "Koh Kradad" is probably derived from the name of "Kradad trees” that are mostly found on the island. They look like elephant ear tree or taro tree that can be used to make medicine. It is a plant that likes to grow on wet beaches. Nowadays, there are still some of them that can be seen on this island. It was later found on the seal that written as "Paper Island", probably based on the geographical features of the island that is almost entirely flat without any mountain.
